Become a Volunteer

Volunteers keep the “FREE” in The Free Clinic. Volunteer support keeps costs low, enabling us to provide quality medical, dental and behavioral health care for those who might otherwise go without care.

Appointments

Free Clinic of Central Virginia has a Centralized Call Center (appointment phone line) to find the best day and time for your visit. Your phone call is very important to us.

Medical Care

We do not provide STD testing or treatment, HIV testing or treatment, pregnancy testing, TB screening, or flu shots unless you are receiving ongoing primary care from the Free Clinic.

 

Eligibility Guidelines

You are most likely eligible if you:

• Are over age 18

• Have household income below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level

• Are not covered by Medicare or private health insurance

• Are currently living in Virginia

 

If you are not currently a Free Clinic patient, you must first schedule an Eligibility Screening Interview. Call 434-846-5866 to schedule your screening.

 

Office Hours

The Free Clinic is not a walk-in clinic. All services are by appointment. Services are provided by volunteers and are limited by the availability of our volunteer providers.

Tuesday and Thursday

8:30 am to 7:00 pm

 

Closed everyday between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm

If you need medical care, but you don’t have health insurance, you may be eligible to receive medical care at the Free Clinic. If you are a current patient of the Free Clinic and become eligible for Medicaid, we will continue to serve you.

 

We believe that everyone should have access to high-quality healthcare.

 

We provide free comprehensive primary care for adults by appointment only including:

• Ongoing care for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, allergies,

  thyroid disorders and high cholesterol

• Treatment for minor acute illnesses like bronchitis, sinus infections, influenza and urinary tract

  infections

• Preventive medical care like flu shots, physicals, screenings for cancer and diagnostic tests for

  chronic illnesses

• Annual gynecological exams, Pap tests, breast exams, mammograms and some birth control for

  female patients

• Routine lab services

 

We provide free specialty medical services for adults by appointment only during monthly clinics including:

 

• Dermatology

• Endocrinology

• Gastroenterology

• Gynecology  

• Hypertension/Kidney Disease care  

• Internal Medicine

• Ophthalmology

• Orthopedics

• Podiatry

• Rhuematology

We also provide referrals to other providers for free or reduced-cost medical specialties including:

• Audiology

• Cardiology

• Chiropractic

• Ear, Nose and Throat  

• Infectious Disease  

• Mammography

• Nephrology

• Oncology

• Physical Therapy
